Heather Zakson is in solo practice, representing families and children in special education, Regional Center and related disability civil rights matters; and providing expert consultation for family law custody issues involving children with disabilities. Heather volunteers with Learning Rights Law Center, the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, and Practising Law Institute. She was awarded the Breaking Education Barriers Award from Learning Rights Law Center; the Borchard Fellowship; and the California Bar Access and Fairness Leadership Academy. She is a graduate of Brandeis University and UCLA School of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Heather was a staff attorney at Learning Rights Law Project in the Western Law Center for Disability Rights, and before that, in healthcare access, workers’ rights and corporate accountability campaigns.
