Personal Bio: 

Executive Director since 2005 of Disability Rights Maryland (DRM), Maryland's Protection & Advocacy organization, a nonprofit law firm providing free legal advocacy services for people with all types of disabilities, of all ages, statewide. Staff of over 30 & budget of over $3 million. Range of substantive practice areas and legal strategies.

Worked for a decade at Disability Rights California in various capacities including Director of Public Policy, Legislative Advocate, Housing Advocate and Clients' Rights Advocate.

Former Executive Director of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation in Washington, DC. Worked with national public policy makers, managed grant projects, engaged in international disability development projects in Africa and Central America.

J.D. and B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Davis.

Board Secretary and Legislative Committee Co-chair, National Disability Rights Network; Board member, U.S. International Council on Disabilities; Commissioner, Maryland Access to Justice Commission; Legislative Committee Chairperson, Civil Rights Coalition of Maryland; Leader, Maryland Disability Rights Coalition; Cofounder, Maryland Legal Services Executives. Maryland Nonprofits Public Policy Committee, Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, People with Disabilities Diversity Leadership Council, Public Policy Conflict Resolution Fellow, ADA Leadership Network, Citizens Planning & Housing Association, among others. Volunteer for disability, arts and food security nonprofits.

Other prior experience includes California Assembly Legislative Fellowship on Ways & Means Committee, internship with Assemblywoman (now U.S. Rep.) Barbara Lee, Maryland Governor O’Malley’s Disability Transition Team - Olmstead/Institutions Co-Chair.

Maryland Daily Record’s Top 100 Women, Stanley S. Herr Advocacy Leadership Award, Smart CEO Brava Award, Ed Roberts Advocacy Award, Leadership Maryland, Leadership Greater Baltimore, Weinberg Foundation Impact Award, 3 Advocacy Achievement Awards from Disability Rights California, numerous organizational awards.

Lived and studied German and Spanish abroad. Certified yoga instructor; teaches yoga at the Y of Central Maryland.
